We are excited to inform you that the Bo District Council is currently opening bids for the construction of an ultra-modern student hostel at Torwama campus, Njala University, at its conference hall in Falaba Section, Kakua chiefdom.

The growing number of students at Njala University faces a shortage of housing options, thus, resulting in students’ poor performance in academia. Currently, many students compete for rooms closer to the campus, which endures a burden on rent or choose to live far from campus, making it hard for them to attend classes regularly.

This situation is dire, hindering academic success and demotivation for learning. The Bo District Council, with financial support from the European Union, has committed funds to alleviate this challenge by constructing an ultra-modern student hostel with 34 bedrooms for a start.

The new hostel is part of the Council’s leadership’s bigger plan to bolster accommodation infrastructure and meet the rising demand for student housing.
Providing students with safe, comfortable housing is crucial for their success in college. When students have a good place to stay, they focus better on their studies and enjoy campus life more.

Today, Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, the Bo District Council took an important step in investing in infrastructure by opening bids for a new student hostel at Torwama campus, Njala University. This event marks a big move towards alleviating constraints, promising better accommodation options for future students.

The bid opening process not only invites construction companies to compete but also shows the Council’s commitment to transparency and fairness. It sets the stage for a major project that will help shape quality education in this part of the country.

Other categories of attendees are CSOs, University Authorities, End users and media representatives.

Bidders were required to submit detailed proposals showing their experience, costs, and timelines. During the event, each bid was opened and recorded in front of witnesses to ensure fairness and transparency.

It is a simplified procurement method, which is equivalent to a National Competitive Bidding (NCB) due to the threshold.

According to the Chief Administrator, the project will boost local employment and support district development.

Staying updated on Council progress is vital.
