It gives me great pleasure to welcome you most cordially to our amazing ‘Sweet Bo District’, where development is nurtured to foster a fair distribution of resources for both present and future generations. Despite the limited resources, my administration has been efficient in its distribution, utilization, and management in a demanding locality that seems insatiable in terms of services.
In the recent past, we witnessed significant progress in the area of feeder road rehabilitation, construction of bridges and culverts, construction and rehabilitation of schools, Health facilities, multi-purpose halls, hand-dug wells, and bore holes. The number of hungry people in the world is soaring, but the resources we need to assist them are running dangerously low, despite there have been some frantic efforts to grow enough food for the teeming population, yet, we require more time to meet our target, as we strive to navigate, and only through a joint effort will we be able to reach our fundamental goal. In this sense, I consider my remaining years in my first term as a springboard board taking on a transcendental leap for the growth of the district.
While this is an important achievement, much remains to be done, but only with considerable inclusion and participation can programs be implemented and made effective in the delivery of efficient services. I would like to urge citizens to cooperate with the Council, ask critical questions, and hold us to account for our stewardship.
We have lately signed a grant agreement of five hundred thousand euros (500,000 €) with the European Union, meant to deliver efficient services to the people of the Bo District. It is a two-year project with the following actions: construction of an equipped WASH facility, a 50-bedroom ultra-modern student hostel at Towama, Njala University, training for Staff and Councilors, and many other soft components programs that leverage institutional capacity building. In that regard, I will constitute a project management team that will adequately handle the implementation.
My leadership has been incredible in the area of transparency and accountability in all aspects. I uphold the significance of constructive dialogue and community engagement at all levels; a reason we are rotating our Ordinary Council meetings, so that far-reaching communities can equally have their voice heard in the Council.
I want to entreat residents of the Bo district to exercise their civic responsibility by complying with their tax obligations. Despite the introduction of the GovPay SL, we still encounter low turnout in the payment of taxes.
The GovPay SL is an electronic device meant for the payment of services like property rates, business licences, business registration, and other utilities. It is a system that improves access to services and intensifies the efficiency of financial systems, and comprises a broad range of technology-enabled financial activities, such as online mobile payments through Orange Money, Afrimoney, and Qmoney. The ultimate goal is to enhance the reach, speed, and cost-effectiveness of financial services, making them more accessible to the general public.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the residents of Bo District, Councilors, Staff, Devolved Sectors, and Implementing Partners for the enthusiasm and firm support in all our programs. We have felt every bit of collaboration and synergy in all our operations.
As we strive for excellence, we envision an ambitious agenda for the district, one that integrates existing stewardship initiatives. In that respect, let us remain focused on our goal, co-create ideas, live the dream, and share our passion for the Bo District we want to see.
I wish us all a fruitful year and better opportunities.
I remain your humble servant!
